To quote the Founder, and President of Choi Kwang Do Martial Arts International, Grand Master Kwang Jo Choi (9th Degree Black Belt);
“My observations and first hand experience with traditional Martial Arts motivated me to create a superior form of exercise, self-defense training, and a means towards realizing one's highest mental and physical potential .”* The most important benefit of Choi Kwang Do is the development of each individual to attain their fullest potential. Every Student has the potential to live a happy, fulfilling life and Choi Kwang Do represents a way to help them achieve that goal. Choi Kwang Do is seen as a dynamic evolving Martial Art, developed in conjunction with sport scientists. It is the fusion of traditional Martial Arts core values and philosophy with modern sport-based scientific research, (specifically biomechanics, kinesiology, psychology and neuro-physiology), in order to develop an effective self defence style; appropriate for all people and, applicable in any street self defence situation. Each class begins with an affirmation of the Choi Kwang Do core values: Humility, Honesty, Gentleness, Perseverance, Self Control and Unbreakable Spirit. The result is a friendly relaxed atmosphere of respect and courtesy toward all people, where students can train at their own rate under the supervision of a qualified Choi Kwang Do Chief Instructor. Choi Kwang Do has been designed to deliver the optimum force in each technique without causing long term debilitating injury to the hinge joints (or ‘lock-outs’) by locking techniques at contact point. This means more power can be transferred into an opponent, whilst preventing shock injury to the neck, knees, hips or elbows. Choi Kwang Do has been designed to focus on health and flexibility through a system of techniques rather than regimented system of punching and kicking alone. People come to Choi Kwang Do for various reasons, but very few leave once they have experienced a martial art run at their own pace, from ages 3 to almost 90. This is a health system first and a martial art second. Grand Master Kwang Jo Choi summarises as follows; “As a member of an international association, you can take pride in the fact that you are receiving the most thorough and professional martial arts instruction available. You will find each of my instructors to be helpful, courteous, and glad to answer your questions. With time and dedicated training, I am sure that you will find the benefits from your commitment to Choi Kwang-Do to be great and the rewards many.”* *The full transcript is available on the Choi Kwang Do International Website at www.choikwangdo.com Since Grand Master, Kwang Jo Choi launched Choi Kwang Do in 1987, there are now over 400 Schools across the World, and the Art is seen as one of the fastest growing Martial Arts’ in the current time.
